Abishov can be considered as product of the Neftchi Baku youth system. He has spent most of his career in Neftchi. He became the winner of Azerbaijan Premier League in 2010–11, 2011–12 seasons in Neftchi, then he was transferred to Khazar Lankaran.[1] On 26 February 2013 he signed a contract with Rubin Kazan for 2.5 years.[2]

On 24 June 2014, Abishov joined Azerbaijan Premier League side Gabala FK on a six-month loan deal,[3] before signing a six-month contract with the club in following the completion of the loan deal.[4]

On 14 September 2015, Abishov re-signed for Gabala follow complications to his registration at Khazar Lankaran.[5] Following the conclusion of the 2015–16 season, Abishov left Gabala having turned down a new contract with the club.[6]

On 29 June 2016, Abishov signed a one-year contract with Inter Baku.[7] On 12 January 2017, Abıshov signed a six-month contract with Neftchi Baku.[8] Abishov extended his contract in summer of 2017 and captained the team during the 2017–18 season when Neftchi claimed bronze medals in the season, highest league result since 2013. On 10 June 2019, Neftchi released Abishov from his contract by mutual consent.[9]

On 13 June 2019, Abishov signed a two-year contract with Sabah FC.[10]

On 26 June 2021, Zira FK, announced the signing of Abishov.[11]

International

Abıshov made his debut for Azerbaijan on 5 September 2009 against Finland in 2010 WC qualification.[12] He scored his first goal on 18 November 2009 against Czech in a friendly match.

The Neftchi Baku 2007–08 season was Neftchi Baku's sixteenth Azerbaijan Premier League season. They started the season under the management of Gurban Gurbanov who was replaced by Vlastimil Petržela after the UEFA Cup qualifiers at the start of September. Petržela was replaced by Anatoliy Demyanenko on 5 January 2008. They finished 3rd in the league and were knocked out of the Azerbaijan Cup at the semifinal stage by Inter Baku. Neftchi also took part in the UEFA Cup, being eliminated at the First qualifying round by SV Ried of Austria.

The Neftchi Baku 2008–09 season was Neftchi Baku's seventeenth Azerbaijan Premier League season. They started the season under the management of Anatoliy Demyanenko, however he was replaced by Hans-Jürgen Gede on 1 September 2008. On 28 February 2009 Gede was replaced Boyukaga Agaev, who was in charge until the end of the season. They finished 8th in the league and were knocked out of the Azerbaijan Cup at the quarterfinal stage by Karabakh. Neftchi also took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, reaching the Third Round before losing to Vaslui of Romania.

On 14 November 2012, Carles Martorell Baqués was appointed as the club's permanent manager, replacing caretaker manager Erik Roqueta Capilla. Baqués resigned as manager on 26 February 2013. On 8 March 2013 John Toshack was announced as the new manager, taking over from 15 March 2013.

The award has been given since 1991, and the winner is elected by authorized journalists from the leading Azerbaijani sport media. On the same occasion, an award is also given for Azerbaijani Football Goalkeeper of the Year since 2009. However, this award is not always given annually.
