Miss Guadeloupe International is a national Beauty pageant responsible for selecting Guadeloupe's representatives to the International pageants. This pageant is not related to Miss Guadeloupe where the winner traditionally competes at Miss France contest.

Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants.

Guadeloupe is an archipelago and overseas department and region of France in the Caribbean. It consists of four inhabited islands—Basse-Terre, Grande-Terre, Marie-Galante, La Désirade, and the two inhabited Îles des Saintes—as well as many uninhabited islands and outcroppings. It is south of Antigua and Barbuda and Montserrat, north of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The region's capital city is Basse-Terre, located on the southern west coast of Basse-Terre Island; however, the most populous city is Les Abymes and the main centre of business is neighbouring Pointe-à-Pitre, both located on Grande-Terre Island. It had a population of 384,239 in 2019.

The trademark for the pageant is owned by the company Miss France SAS, and is a subsidiary of Endemol Shine France. The competition is aired on TF1.

History

1977–1985

Miss Guadeloupe pageant has been known since 1977 when the island competed at the Miss Universe pageant. Since 1984 the island joins Miss France contest as overseas department of the country. In 1985 it boycotts to the Miss Universe pageant, because of the pageant does allow that island competing in a national competition as a region.[1]

2003–present

Since 2003 Guadeloupe allows winners to compete at the Miss World contest. The "Miss International Guadeloupe" contest sends its winner to the Miss World. While runners-up might compete at the Miss International and Miss Earth pageants.

Miss Universe

In 2021, The Miss Guadalupe International organization acquired the Miss Universe license to send its only representative to the Miss Universe pageant. The delegates will compete as "Miss Universe Sin Marteen & Guadalupe" in the pageant.

Miss World 2007, the 57th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 1 December 2007 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. It was hosted by Fernando Allende and Angela Chow. Zhang Zilin of China won the crown and succeeded Taťána Kuchařová of the Czech Republic.

The contestants also paid a visit to Hong Kong, Tokyo. Miss International 2007, Priscila Perales of Mexico, crowned her successor Alejandra Andreu of Spain as the new Miss International.
