Aaron Chalmers (born 26 May 1987) is an English retired mixed martial artist, reality television personality, and professional boxer. He appeared in the reality shows Geordie Shore and Ex on the Beach.[1] He competed in Bellator MMA.[2]

Television personality

On 4 April 2014, it was announced that Chalmers had joined the cast of Geordie Shore for the eighth series. He left the series after season 16.[3]

He appeared in the sixth series of Ex on the Beach as the ex of Maisie Gillespie. The series began airing on 17 January 2017.[4] In 2019, Chalmers began starring in the MTV series Geordie Shore OGs, a spinoff series of Geordie Shore. Before becoming well-known, he worked on an oil rig.

Geordie Shore is a British reality television series that was broadcast on MTV between 24 May 2011 and 22 November 2022. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England it was the British offshoot of the American show Jersey Shore. The programme follows the daily lives of 8–12 housemates, as they live together for a number of weeks. In the first series, the house was located in Jesmond, a suburb of Newcastle. Since the second series, the show has used a house in the Oceana Business Park in Wallsend.

The eighth series of Geordie Shore, a British television programme based in Newcastle upon Tyne was confirmed in October 2013 after cast member Holly Hagan announced it on Twitter and is expected to air 22 July 2014. Filming began for this series on 25 March 2014. This series will be the first not to feature former cast member Sophie Kasaei after she was axed during the seventh series following a racial slur. All other cast members from the previous series return with the addition of new cast member Aaron Chalmers who had briefly appeared during series two of the show as a one-night stand of Holly's. In May 2014, Gaz announced that the series would begin in July. An exclusive first trailer for the series was released during an episode of Ex On The Beach on 3 June 2014. It was revealed on 10 June 2014 that another new cast member had joined, 21-year-old Kyle Christie.

Geordie Shore OGs is a British reality television series broadcast on MTV developed as a sequel to Geordie Shore. The series reunites the original cast members, alongside their children, friends, and new faces, and follows their personal and professional lives. It premiered on 14 August 2019. MTV renewed the series for a fourth season which premiered on 13 July 2021.

Mixed martial arts career

BAMMA (2017)

In May 2017, he had his first MMA fight,[5][6] beating Greg Jenkins.[7] He has previously practised Muay Thai. He won his second professional fight at BAMMA 31 at the SSE Arena beating Alex Thompson by KO on 15 September 2017. His third and final fight for BAMMA was a win (by TKO) against Karl Donaldson on 15 December in his home town arena the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.

Bellator (2018–2021)

In March 2018, Chalmers announced he would be joining Bellator. He had his first fight against Ash Griffiths on 25 May 2018 for the Bellator 200 event at Wembley Arena.[8] He won the fight via technical submission in the first round.[9] In his second outing for the promotion, Chalmers suffered his first defeat as a professional fighter, as he was defeated by American Corey Browning by submission in the third round.[10] In June 2019, Chalmers returned to the win column with a submission victory over Fred Freeman.[11]

Chalmers next faced Austin Clem in a welterweight bout at Bellator 240 on February 22, 2020.[12] He lost the bout via unanimous decision (30-27 x2, 30-26).

Chalmers announced his retirement from MMA competition in an IGTV video posted on 18 February 2021.[13]

This discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs", as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins. BAMMA events were shown live on ITV4 in the UK and Ireland, KIX in Asia, VEQTA Digital Broadcast Sports Network in India, Kwese in Africa, DAZN in Germany & Russia, FITE TV and UNILAD (Online). BAMMA events stream live on the UNILAD Facebook Page (Prelims) and ITV4 (UK) & Fite.tv (US). Chalmers made his switch from MMA to Boxing in 2022. Chalmers had his first professional fight against Alexander Zeledon on June 17, 2022. Chalmers won the bout by outpointing his opponent, 39-37 on the judges cards.[14]

Exhibition bout

In January 2023, it was announced that Chalmers would face former undisputed multiple division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a exhibition bout, after his original opponent for the fight, Muay Thai fighter Liam Harrison, pulled out.[15] The bout is currently set to take place at the O2 Arena in London, England on February 25, 2023.[16]
